Overview
One of the popular pilgrimage tours among locals, Gosaikund Trek involves not more than 7 days. The Laurebina La Pass at 4610m is the highest altitude you can reach on the trek. Right from the starting point at Thulo Syabru or Syabrubesi the trek would steadily increase in altitude. You will pass through lush alpine forests of hemlock and oak and undulating ridges. Watch out for the portion from Sing Gompa situated at the altitude of 3330m right up to Lauribina since this is a perfect sanctuary for rare Red Pandas. Once you reach the Laurebina Yak(3920m), you will be able to enjoy the views of Annapurnas, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal. From Laurebina Yak you will enter Alpine country with less vegetation and almost barren land. Before Gosaikund you will come across two lakes, namely Saraswati Kund and Bhairav Kund. Gosaikund is regarded as a religious sanctity in that Shiva is believed to have created the lake in the process of quenching the heat of the poison he had swallowed. Every year during the full-moon in August locals as well as tourists visit the lake.
